Camping was a bust

We tried to go camping this weekend but it was a bust.

We left home yesterday morning and headed to Temple Bar on Lake Mead. Temple Bar is part of the Lake Mead Recreational Area.

The campground was great, and we really wanted to spend a nice weekend camping. But, the wind would not cooperate. It was slightly windy when we got there, but not bad. We set up camp, and did a little exploring of the area. Whitley even got to walk in Lake Mead.

However, the wind continued to blow, and got stronger as the day wore on. It was blowing at a rate of 25-30 mph, with gusts of around 40 mph. The tent withheld pretty well, until a couple of gusts hit just right and snapped two poles. Ben did a little repair, but we were afraid they wouldn't withstand the gusts. After watching a couple other campers give up and break camp, we decided that it would probably be best if we did as well. We wound up driving home last night. Luckily Temple Bar was only about an hour and a half drive from where we live. By the time we got home, we were all exhausted from the wind, and we were hungry. The wind was blowing so hard at the campground that we weren't able to start a fire to cook. Ben grilled some burgers when we got home, and then we crashed pretty hard.

Today, Ben spent some time working on his truck. I spent some time looking for writing gigs and ideas. We grilled again this afternoon, and then went to see Thor this evening. Now Ben is playing the bass along with The Beatles "Help" while I write.

We both have the day off tomorrow, and will have our weekly breakfast with Fred.

Until next time, B
